Testimonials
“I have worked with Universal Digital for over three years and l like the quick turnaround they provide me. The staff is very accommodating and they've gone above and beyond the norm on several occasions. I sometimes send late scripts and they are, in most cases, able to give it back to me in the same day or within one day. I'd highly recommend Universal Digital."
- Alvin Harris, Patriot Communications
“I've worked with Universal Digital for over a year and a half and I love the fact that they are extremely flexible, always available, and have an excellent variety of voice talent. More than once our sales staff has promised a timeframe that in the past was unrealistic. Universal Digital's flexibility and availability has bailed us out of many situations. We're not in a business where we would be able to do much recommending, but if the situation ever arose, I'd highly recommend Universal Digital.”

1. Universal Digital helps McGraw-Hill capture online education market share.
Business Opportunity: McGraw-Hill (MH) is one the largest and most profitable book publishers in the United States. Like other early adopters of the Internet, MH wrestled with how to make best use of the new technology. They believed that online education was an obvious way to save millions on printing and shipping costs, but they weren’t certain if learners would make the shift from paper to paperless education. McGraw-Hill embarked on a three year pilot project called Audio Grades 1-6, which spawned an entirely new “digital” education wing within the parent company.
Key Requirements and Challenges: Initially, the project was to transcribe math problems for grades 1-6 into html code so students and parents could view and answer the problems online. Graphic designers were charged with converting the data into basic html code, creating interactive ‘mini’ web pages for each problem. While this was revolutionary to the online learning community, it lacked warmth and interactivity. MH executives decided that adding sound would make their product more saleable and so they set out to find a professional digital recording company that could produce voice prompts, thus bringing to life some 35,000 silent math problems.
Eight thousand prompts was considered a very large job in telephony, but MH needed 65,000 uniquely named files, and they needed them in less than six months. Finding a company that could handle this recording volume without sacrificing quality was pivotal to MH’s success. Marketing for the project was already underway and a late launch date was unacceptable.
Application Solution: At Universal Digital’s invitation, the Director of Operations for MH visited the studio and watched as Universal Digital’s engineers created and produced 500 custom audio files within an hour. Impressed by Universal Digital’s world-class voice talent and unwavering commitment to get the product to market on time, MH chose to work with Universal Digital and began sending 5,000 files a week, all of which had to be recorded, edited, converted and assigned corresponding file names.
Just over three months later, MH received the last batch of their 65,000 custom files. Because of the quick turn-around, MH was able to put their product to market well before their competitors and capture a huge portion of the online education market, solidifying their position as an expert in educational resources.
2. Internal Revenue Service
Problem: In an effort to streamline, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) created "Telefile", a communication application that allows customers to file their taxes over the phone. The IRS needed strong, clear voices that were easy to understand in the hope that more customers would file returns via the phone, saving agents time, hassle and paperwork. Each file needed to be individually edited and sent in a correct format. Additionally, the IRS requested certain files to be translated and recorded in over a dozen different languages.
Solution: After hand-picking the perfect voice talent for the job, we began translating, producing and recording the tens of thousands of files required to finish the telefile. Results: Over 100,000 custom audio files were translated and recorded to the IRS's complete satisfaction and delivered well before schedule.
3. 1-800 Goodyear
Problem: Goodyear is a household name. With some 10,000 dealerships across the nation, they needed a way to organize, connect and communicate with one another. After installing custom IVR software, they then needed thousands of dealer-locator custom voice prompts recorded for each franchise. Knowing that they would forever be updating and changing these prompts, they were looking for a company and a talent that would be around for a long time.
Solution: After we were awarded the project, we chose a voice talent who had been with us from the very beginning, knowing that he was reliable and available to record weekly.
Results: After we finished the initial recordings, we were asked to continue recording anywhere from ten to one thousand custom prompts each week. That was seven years ago and we have never missed a deadline. As a result, Goodyear has remained a faithful and happy client.
4. Bosnian Translation & Recording
Problem: After the end of the Bosnian "Conflict", many Bosnian political refugees immigrated to America, settling, of all places, in Iowa. Due to the Freedom of Information Act, the State of Iowa needed a way to communicate to these refugees, in their own language, their rights and responsibilities. They needed a studio that not only could translate a script into a not-oft used language, but also had access to the talent that could then record it.
Solution: The State of Iowa sent Universal Digital a huge 50-page language packet which needed to be translated and recorded.
Results: The State of Iowa was sent a flawless Bosnian translation and recording and have since requested our services for other unusual translation and recording jobs.
